The
first three winners of the contest (Mihai Micu - 1st
place, Anamaria Dumitroaia - 2nd place and Ioana
Andreea Mihai - 3rd place) will have the opportunity
to attend a one month internship within Graffiti
BBDO. The first ten finalists will be invited to
British Council to join a party and to meet the
entire contest team - the champaign will be accompanied
by surprise awards.
Mihai Micu, 24 years old, is born in Slobozia, attended informatics in Brasov
and works now in Sibiu, being ready to try the advertising taste in Bucharest.
As any competitor, he sent his entries in hurry, having afterwards some doubts
and regrets about having not sent another work.
Announced on June 14, 2004 within an event organized at Faculty for Journalism
and Communication, the contest was addressed to youth under the age of 26 who
were not working in advertising agencies. There were received over 200 entries
with concepts for TV, radio and print ads based on the main theme: "Go for sport" - an
advice for young people to practice sports. The contest jury appreciated the
originality and simplicity of the creative idea, but also its relevance for communicating
the campaign message.
"We were surprised to see how many entries came. Over 200, in 3 dossiers as thick
as the Romanian dictionary, a sign that advertising keeps shining for young people.
To jury all these was a difficult and enduring mission. We tried to be as objective
as possible and to see the real creative potential of people beyond some less
skilled executions. There was a variety of works, from common ideas to very interesting
ones. A special mention for those who tried "to sell cucumbers to gardeners":
ads for Nike, Adidas, Trojan or Honda ads. Nice try! Finally, the 10 people short
list includes very good works, the top 3 deserving at least coming to Eroii Sanitari
18 for one month. Congratulations to winners and to all participants. And one
more thing: during the whole jury process I had the feeling that somewhere between
the pile of rejected works there was hidden a genius. I promise him/her there
will be another contest in 2005", says Adrian Preda, Creative Director Graffiti
BBDO, one of the jury members.
Gabriela Massaci, Marketing & Communication Director British Council, member
of the jury, comments the contest results: "A 23 year old IT, a 22 year old Law
student and a 18 year old high school girl - this is the perfect line-up demonstrating
how much dissemination has, among young people, the spirit we do celebrate through
UK_RO festival: imagination, escape from common places, the essence understanding,
the courage to look from a new perspective - with fun and responsibility. I really
liked to be a jury member, to see so many living concepts - all of them have
won!".
The other members of the jury were Sorin Psatta - Research & Strategy Director
Graffiti BBDO and Catalina Oche[ila - PR Coordinator British Council.
