Ready to go to Golden Drum!
Bucharest, September 10, 2003

The creation contest initiated by Graffiti BBDO, Golden Drum and the Association of Romanian Publishers, entitled "The Way to Golden Drum", has designated its winners. Ion Andrei Barbu, 24 years old, is the winner of the first prize representing the participation at the tenth edition of the Golden Drum Advertising Festival in Portoroz (Slovenia) to take place on October 5 - 10, 2003.

Travel expenses will be entirely covered by Graffiti BBDO, and the access to workshops, presentations all throughout the festival as well as to the awards gala is ensured by Golden Drum.

The first three ranking contestants (Ion Andrei Barbu, Ioana Nemes and Mihaela-Luminita Blanaru) have the opportunity of a one-month internship at Graffiti BBDO.

Ion Andrei Barbu is currently undertaking Master courses at the Faculty of History, the University of Bucharest, and has already made a first step in a career in the field of marketing. After having graduated the IT High School in Petrosani, he went on to the Faculty of History and Philosophy within the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj. Talking about his participation in the creation contest, Ion says "I enjoy reading very much and the idea of coming up with a way to convince others to do it appealed to me. To tell a book - this was the concept of the campaign I proposed - may be a good start."

Announced on June 11, 2003, during an event at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies, the creation contest was meant for students who are not employees of an advertising agency. More than 150 works were registered, including concepts for TV, radio and print commercials. Their theme was the awakening of the interest in reading among Romanian youth.

The jury was made up of:
Lucian Georgescu - Executive Creatve Director / Graffiti BBDO,
Sorin Psatta - Strategy and Research Director / Graffiti BBDO,
Doina Marian - Managing Director/Association of Romanian Publishers,
Elena Francisc - editor-in-chief Cosmopolitan / partner in the campaign and
Serban Huidu and Mihai Gainusa - Ambassadors of the Golden Drum Festival in Romania.

"Any sale process is a transfer of enthusiasm. And the quality and the amount of the entries in the contest prove that we managed to "sell" it very well. To me, the "The Way to Golden Drum" contest was equally a challenge - the challenge to come up with a "hot" theme which should trigger reactions - and a nice surprise - the surprise to find in students the interest for the art of language and image", declares Sorin Psatta, chairman of the jury.
