BBDO
and Proximity dominate Cannes International Advertising
Festival
Bucharest,
July 2, 2003
BBDO Worldwide was the most awarded Global Agency Network
at this year's International Advertising Festival in Cannes.
The agency received a total of 42 Lions, significantly
more than its closest competitor, including 14 Gold, 13
Silver, 13 Bronze, one media Lion and one special award
for "Agency of the Year".
Almap BBDO in Brazil was the most awarded individual agency
within the BBDO Network, capturing 10 Lions. This earned
it recognition as one of the festival's "Agency of
the Year"
.What's more, BBDO Worldwide dominated the Print/Poster,
Direct and Online Media competitions. BBDO received 18
Lions for its print and poster work, 12 Lions for Direct
marketing, and five Cyber Lions for various online media
campaigns.
This marks BBDO Worldwide's most impressive performance
at Cannes in the past three years. Last year, BBDO Worldwide
finished in second place with a total of 25 Lions. In
2001, the agency tied for first with 23 awards.
In all, 13 different BBDO network agencies were awarded
Lions: Almap BBDO (11), AMV BBDO in London (4), AtmosphereBBDO
in New York (1), BBDO Argentina (2), BBDO Bangkok (1),
BBDO InterOne, Germany (1), Berry Bush BBDO in South Africa
(1), Clemenger BBDO in New Zealand (2), CLM BBDO, Paris
(1), Colenso BBDO in New Zealand (2), Contrapunto in Spain
(2), Network BBDO in South Africa (1), and Tiempo BBDO
in Barcelona (2).
In addition, six agencies of Proximity Worldwide, BBDO's
global customer relationship marketing network, captured
Lions for Direct Marketing: CP Communication Proximity
in Spain (3), CP Interactive in Spain (2), Craig Jones
Watson in the UK (2), Palla Koblinger Proximity in Austria
(3) si Proximity, Netherlands (1).
Thus, Proximity Worldwide ranked first in the Direct Marketing
competition.
"Due to this impressive success,
the BBDO network is already favorite in this year's final
ranking. We hope to celebrate BBDO's creative supremacy
worldwide again this year, as we did in 2002 - after publication
of The Gun Report in autumn -", says Lucian
Georgescu, Graffiti BBDO Creative Director.
"As regards BBDO Romania, we
are first and foremost interested in results. While last
year we contributed a small number of points (obtained
at the New York Festivals, the only competition in the
tournament Graffiti/BBDO and Proximity took part in and
counted for the general network ranking system), this
year we already have much better results. To name just
a few ones: Graffiti BBDO is short - listed in the London
International Advertising Festival, the TV competition;
it received the Bronze Medal at The New York Festivals,
the Print competition; the Silver Medal at the Worldmedia
Festival, in Hamburg; the Special Prize in the Ad Spot
Non Profit 2003, in Palermo and the Grand Prix at the
Golden Beach Umbrella, in Albena, Bulgaria. We hope these
valuable awards, together with the ones we are expecting
at the Golden Drum Festival in Portoroz, will also contribute
to the future local results. I do believe this because
Graffiti BBDO is a powerful creative force, whose works
have been recognized by many international juries. The
most recent example is "The Experiment" for
the National Disabled People Organization (ONPHR) which
got its sixth international award in June: The Bronze
Medal in the Social / Educational Campaign section of
the World Advertising Festival in Gramado, Brazil",
Lucian Georgescu adds.
